AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE?
MANDATORY AUTO LIABILITY INSURANCE (a rip-off!)
I live in one of the few states in America, where you are not required to purchase auto liability insurance. (Mississippi) I moved here from Louisiana, which continues to create more aggressive and useless insurance laws to rip-off the motoring public. (Louisiana used to be a GREAT place to live.)
While the concept of mandatory insurance may seem sound and logical, it is really a flawed and counter-productive process which is wasting billions of dollars. Worse yet, these insurance policies offer very little protection for anyone involved in an accident. Please consider these simple and common sense facts:
(1) Most states require you to have auto liability insurance, but most of these states only require you to have coverage in the $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 range. Such insurance is costly, yet it offers almost no real protection. Even a motorcycle can exceed $20,000.00 in value, and medical bills can exceed this amount for one hospital stay. If you cause an accident, you can easily lose almost everything you own in spite of your insurance coverage. If you are the victim, you will still pay for thousands in damages not covered by the policy of the person who hit you. Either way, BOTH parties lose! (while the insurance company get off the hook by paying only a few thousand dollars in damages) After a serious accident, you will either be declined for further coverage, or "raped" financially to retain the "useless" level of coverage. (remember, the law will REQUIRE you to have the insurance NO MATTER what the cost to you is)
(2) This expensive & useless insurance costs drivers a fortune to maintain, and it also creates a "nightmare" for enforcement agencies. To insure compliance, states must create vast databases, vast agencies, and burden police with another task to perform. (checking for insurance at traffic stops) As usual, the government cannot handle the monsters they create, and the driving public becomes the victim of yet another harsh task master. If Joe Q. Citizen sells his car, the insurance company informs the state that he has dropped coverage. Poor Joe either pays a fine, or he is forced to stand in line in an attempt to explain what REALLY HAPPENED. (to a clerk behind a window who could care less about his troubles) Ask anyone in Louisiana, about the WONDERFUL merits of mandatory auto insurance. As a final slap in the face, if you own 5 cars your are expected to have 5 insurance policies! Could not our ELITE political & insurance mental giants come up with a single policy to provide "blanket" coverage for their customers? (I guess NOT)
(3) The insurance people use the excuse they have to offer insurance to almost anyone, which increases ALL insurance rates. They do not bother to tell you they can charge high-risk drivers HIGH ENOUGH rates to overcome this problem. Of course, they can also simply decline (or drop coverage) on almost anyone, at anytime. The truth is, the insurance LOVE the LOW COVERAGE mandated by the states, as it insures a LOT of customers and MINIMUM risk!
(4) Poor, and elderly people on fixed incomes, are forced to violate the law by driving without insurance coverage. The OVERPRICED & USELESS insurance coverage would require them to give up a lot of food, medicine, and other essential needs, to comply with the law. In today's world, private transportation is a genuine need for most people. The politicians who endorse this blighted insurance rip-off, deserve to be removed from office. People who work in the insurance business have told me of the corrupt insurance brokers and politicians who "soak" the public to fill their greedy pockets.
(5) States like Louisiana, expect people from Mississippi and other states which do not required drivers to have liability insurance to be subject to the mandatory insurance laws. Yet, most of the policies held by people living in states with mandatory insurance laws have clauses that LIMIT THEIR COVERAGE to the STATE THEY RESIDE IN! (talk about a double standard) I believe that there are laws governing interstate commerce, which forbid states from enforcing certain laws dealing with out of state drivers. (especially, if they are simply driving through the state to get to another state) Find out for sure, to be safe.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE AMERICA, THE LAND OF THE FREE. You can drive in Russia, without having to show as much paperwork at a traffic stop. We are really losing it, and most people are too stupid to see what is REALLY happening. Consider this:
Most people want everyone to pay through the nose for this worthless insurance, BECAUSE THEY ARE FORCED TO PAY for it. The simple truth is that WITH or WITHOUT insurance, you are RESPONSIBLE for your actions. (and for your NEGLECT) These dumb laws are unnecessary, for many years people drove in America without such laws. Nothing has changed, people are still left uncompensated even with all of these insurance laws. The only difference is, the insurance industry is raking in the cash, and the states are enlarging their scope of control over the people they are suppose to SERVE.
If you want insurance, by all means buy some! Don't be stupid, if you want real coverage buy at least a policy with a $250,000.00 cap. Buy UNINSURED MOTORIST coverage, and let everyone else alone. If a poor man hits you, you won't get much anyway. (no matter if he has insurance or not) Your freedom is worth more than a lousy insurance policy, sign a petition to have mandatory insurance repealed. (or move to a liberal-left, socialist state if you like being a pawn of government)
So far, Mississippi has escaped this plague, but there are lawmakers who try to get these type of laws passed here too. If you know who these "traitors" are, I hope you help kick them out of office. America was purchased with blood, but we have sold our freedom down the river. In the name of FALSE SECURITY & SAFETY, we have given away many of our freedoms.
One day in the near future, some social agency will convince our lawmakers to REQUIRE all parents to have medical insurance for their children. If you cannot afford such basic protection for your family, your offspring will be placed under the "protection" of the state. Don't say that this cannot happen, my grandfather would have never believed what we now see happening everyday in America. If the founding fathers, and the soldiers who died to give us our freedom saw these things, they would be ASHAMED of EVERYONE of us. (and RIGHTLY so) This insurance matter, is just another nail in our coffin... HAVE A NICE DAY
