As bad as this situation was back then, I have to wonder if our present society is not worse in many ways. Was abortion as common as it is today? Was it "illegal" to read the scriptures in Sodom and Gomorrah, as it is in many of our schools and public places today? Are cities like New Orleans and San Francisco as bad, or worse than these two cities of long ago? I am NOT saying yes or no to these questions, I am simply ASKING these questions. (you must decide these answers for yourself )
My point is that God drew a line in the sand, and these people crossed it. Even Lot, who believed in God, was "vexed" by those who inhabited the area he lived in. His family was so "comfortable" living in a place overrun by sin, God had to send angels to drag them away before the city was wiped from the face of the earth. You know the story, Lot's wife look backed and died on the spot.
Am I saying God was behind the destruction in New York and other places which have recently suffered so much misery and death? The answer is NO, but I do believe He allowed some of these things to happen as a warning of what our future COULD BE if we don't change our ways. (as a society) Before you dare to charge God with being cruel and unjust, remember terrible consequences are the results of doing terrible things. You can't mock God and disregard His commandments, and expect to live a life of peace and quiet. When we follow after our own lusts, and the temptations of the god of this world (Satan), we breed our own problems and provoke destruction upon us.
If anything, it was the God of Creation who LIMITED the damage done throughout America. If there had been a lot of believers in Sodom and Gomorrah, God would have SPARED the cities from the destruction they both suffered. Believe it or not, the book of Jude tells us these SAME PEOPLE are undergoing the vengeance of eternal fire at this very moment! A few believers can provide a lot of protection, as God does listen to the prayers of His own people. (of all ages)
Those who hold God and Christians in contempt, are pouring gas on the flames which could engulf them at any time. The prayers of a few true believers can mean the difference between total destruction, and a LIMITED loss of life and property. If God withdrew His protection totally, nothing would survive upon the face of this planet.
Good people die along with the bad, when things like this occur. The difference is the good people immediately enter a place where sin and pain is no more, while the unsaved simply pass from one burning place to another! People often jump from tall building to escape flames, but those in hell don't have such an option. You may doubt this now, but one second after death you will learn this truth by EXPERIENCE if you are not saved.
If we return to our trust in God as a nation, we will never have to worry even if the worse happens here. If we continue to mock and deny God at the governmental level, our nation will perish. Even the Christians will grow weary of praying for a nation of people with reprobate minds, who hate the ONE who died to set them free.
Every time an unborn baby dies at the hands of a "doctor" who is sworn by an oath to heal, and save lives, God is one step closer to allowing Satan to do his thing. When we fill the airways with pollution which advocates violence and death, and forbid the best "love story" ever written from being read in our class rooms, we "dare" God to respond in anger. I could show many more examples of how we blaspheme God on a routine basis, but you already know in your heart the truth regarding these things.
Before you condemn me as a religious fanatic, remember it is us "fanatics" who are sending our prayers God's way, which may be buying us all time. The people of Sodom and Gomorrah would gladly repent now, if they could escape their present estate. The recent tragic events are just a sample of what WILL HAPPEN, if we don't turn this nation back to the concepts it was founded upon...
